09Feb2000 My response to Klaus' (Spock's) resignation letter, point by point: (note, when I say "Spock feels", what I mean is: "I interpret Spock's feelings as") Issue number 1 -------------- Spock feels that I do not listen to the developers around me. I encourage you to visit http://www.stampede.org/devmeetings and read through the meeting logs. You will see on number of occasions that my feelings as to the direction the distribution should move towards have not coincided with the feelings of the majority of other developers. You will also see that in these instances, I have let majority rule. I also challenge any developer who feels that I haven't listened to him/her, to please come forward to me with a specific instance -- I have yet to receive one. Issue number 2 -------------- Spock feels that I have not been pulling my weight in packaging. I encourage you to look through ftp://ftp.stampede.org/current/README.CHANGES and ftp://ftp.stampede.org/pre-0.90/source/README.CHANGES, and make your own call on this issue. Issue number 3 -------------- Spock feels that I am no longer interested in the Stampede project. I am, in fact, more interested than ever in seeing Stampede succeed, which is why there has been a large push on my part to release 0.90. One should also note that I have updated many things in the past 2 weeks, including some slp tools and a new snapshot of the skibum-installer series. Issue number 4 -------------- 'Because of the known problems and issues I (and other developers too) had with his behavior we suggested that someone else should be the stick holder.' I felt that I was able to conduct the developer meeting in a fair manner, without swaying things to fit my views. Please judge for yourself at http://www.stampede.org/devmeetings when the new meeting log is up. 'He did (obviously) not accept that. I told him that I will not attend the meeting if he is the stick holder and will decide up on the logs if it makes sense to contribute to the Stampede project any longer. He just replied "Ok"' Perhaps I was not sensitive enough to Spock's needs, but this sounded to me like he had already made his decision. My "OK" was acknowledging his decision. Issue number 5 -------------- 'The deadline he set was completely unachievable. He announced a code freeze. And within the week after the announce he every day corrected it down. 1st to a tentatative code freeze, then to a x86 code freeze and finally he was cheeky enough to allege that there never was a code freeze.' If you read through the logs of last week (around last tuesday), you'll notice that a code freeze was never officialy announced. We decided to have a code freeze in a week, and within a few minutes of this disucssion, we changed this code freeze to a probable code freeze to be discussed at a developer meeting, which was in the IRC topic for nearly a week. There has not yet been a code freeze to this day, and one of the major conclusions of the developer meeting was when this will happen. Issue number 6 -------------- 'The excuse that he is not able to upload his done packages is just bullshit. Both, khemicals and Minotaur, offered him to copy the packages to their systems and they would upload them. Minotaur even offered his AT&T dialup account so that skibum can upload his packages what he also rejected.' You'll notice, by reading yesterday's IRC logs, that I rejected offers for help in transfering because I was in the process of getting a new ISP. Before approximatly 1700 MST yesterday, my host was something.grid.net (Mindspring). After 1700MST yesterday, my host was changed to something.psi.net (earthlink). Ever since this transition, I've been transfering files non-stop. You'll notice that in ftp://ftp.stampede.org/pre-0.90/source/README.CHANGES, the first batch of my package updates was posted. The moment those files were done transfering, I started a sync of my tree with whiplash's tree, which is currently in progress(output from fmirror shown): 13:02:49 Getting file 'devel/ddd/source/ddd-3.2.tar.gz' size = 4787594 [ 4787594] 13:33:57 [got 4787594 bytes, 151619531 bytes remaining.
